Special Projects-1

The project was to create an outfit inspired by a painting in 40s. First, I researched fabrics with the closest colors in the painting and designed a 3/4 sleeve shawl collar jacket and a calf length flared skirt. I used a %100 silk suiting fabric for a cooler and softer hand feel. The jacket I designed has no lining to ensure a more comfortable direct contact with the skin.

I also wanted it to be a fall outfit because of the color range. I used a satin printed fabric for the skirt. Both fabrics are light weight. I used organza leaves to attach to the collar in order to create a fall concept. I tried to match the colors of the leaves to the small floral print colors on the skirt. I hand saw hooks and eyes on the collar and the leaves, to make it detachable and turn this jacket into a work outfit. The outfit looks like a costume with the detachable collar, but a work outfit without it.

After the design&development process, I cut out the patterns along with the fabrics, and started the sewing process.

So this is a complete project from concept to design, from sketching to fabric sourcing, and from cutting patterns to sewing.
